"Pierres de Rosette", where does the name come from?

It makes reference to the Rosetta stone, the famous stone which allowed Champollion to decipher hieroglyphs.

Every stone has different characteristics and everyone has its own story, its secret…Hence the name Pierres de Rosette.

We met Virginie and Emmanuel Six when we were looking for a stonemason for our house in the Var. It started with the restoration of our ‘restanques’ . Restanques are stone walls that were used in old olive groves and therefore require workmanship and expertise. The renovation was done completely in style and eye for details and with respect for old traditions (without mortar or concrete!).

Soon it appeared that Virginie and Emmanual have much more competences. They have an extensive portfolio (ask to see it!) with pictures of beautiful fountains and sundials they have created, commissioned by local communities and individuals. After looking at their portfolio we also ordered a fountain and a sundial from them. During the design phase they were open for our ideas and during the creation they listened very well to us.

We now possess a wonderful handmade replica of an age-old fountain we found on the square of a little village nearby. The sundial is designed and calculated by Virginie specially for us and cut by Emmanuel out of the same rock as the fountain. Both fit perfectly with our house and the surroundings. They are true gems which give us joy every day.

Virginie en Emmanuel Six hebben wij ontmoet toen wij een steenhouwer nodig hadden voor ons huis in de Var. Het begon met de restauratie van onze ‘restanques’. Restanques zijn stenen muren die gebruikt werden in oude olijfgaarden en vragen vakmanschap en kennis. Het werk hebben zij geheel in stijl uitgevoerd met oog voor detail en eerbied voor de oude tradities (zonder beton of cement!).

Al snel bleek dat Virginie en Emmanuel veel meer kunnen. Zij hebben een uitgebreid portfolio (vraag er om!) met foto’s van prachtige fonteinen en zonnewijzers die zij in opdracht van gemeenten en privé personen als wij, hebben gemaakt. Toen wij het portfolio hadden bekeken, hebben wij een fontein en een zonnewijzer bij hen besteld. Tijdens de ontwerpfase stonden zij open voor onze ideeën en later bij de uitvoering er van werd er goed naar ons geluisterd.

Wij hebben nu een geweldige handgemaakte replica van een eeuwenoude fontein die we vonden op het plein van een dorpje in de buurt. De zonnewijzer is door Virginie speciaal voor ons ontworpen en berekend en door Emmanuel gehakt uit dezelfde steen als de fontein. Beide passen perfect bij ons huis en de rest van de omgeving. Het zijn juweeltjes waar we elke dag van genieten.
